Capt. Samuel7 Whitney (Samuel6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of Samuel6 and Mary (Whitney) Whitney, was born 14 Jul 1781, Gilsum, NH, or 27 Jan 1782, Worcester, MA, and died 11 Oct 1840, Chesterfield, NY.

He married firstly, 26 Nov 1801, Hope Blish, daughter of David and Lucy (Wilcox) Blish. She was born 30 Jul 1784, Gilsum, NH.

He married secondly, 1822, Elsey Evarts, daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Hall) Evarts. She was born 8 Oct 1795, Guilford, CT, and died 28 Aug 1876.

Capt. Samuel Whitney was born in Gilsum. Soon after his marriage he moved to Chesterfield, NY, where he was one of the earliest settlers. He was captain of the local militia, and in the was of 1812 participated in the battle of Plattsburg. He was a farmer, and at one time engaged in lumbering. Was a deacon and one of the original members and organizers of the Presbyterian church in Keeseville, NY.

Elsey Evarts went to Keeseville, NY, from New England at an early day, and joined the Congregational church before there was any church edifice. She was untiring in her efforts to help build the church and sustain it in its work. Her husband died in 1840, and upon her devolved the arduous work of rearing the large family of children. She performed her work nobly and well. He resided Chesterfield, NY.

iii. Dimas Elmira Whitney, b. 11 Jun 1807; d. 3 Jul 1833; m. Hiram Perry; resided Fort Covington, NY. Had one son, Samuel.
iv. Samuel Whitney, b. 25 Jan 1811; d. Keeseville, NY, unmarried
v. Daniel Milo Whitney, b. 28 Jul 1815; m. Emily Reynolds.
vi. Harriett Zephia Whitney, b. Sept 29, 1819; m.(1) Henry D. Andrews; m.(2) Heber S. Hurlbut. She d. 1 Dec 1854, leaving one dau., Mayra Ellen, b. 3 Oct 1850; m. John Ogleby Day; resided Milwaukee, WI. He was b. 22 Oct 1849.
Ch.: Daniel. R., b. 27 Feb 1878; Charlotte E., b. 22 Jan 1884; Elsey Whitney, b. 25 July 1885.
