Silas Stacy7 Whitney (Hananiah6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Hananiah6 and Azubah (Keyes) Whitney, was born 27 Jun 1805, Winchendon, MA,[1] and died 5 Aug 1873, Chicago, IL.
He married, 18 Jun 1829, Chichester, NH, Mary Bryant Cate. She was born 9 Feb 1811, and died 13 Jun 1892.
He was born in Winchendon, MA, on a farm and on leaving home worked in a mill carding wool. Later he was engaged in the general menchandising business at Centre Harbor, NH. About 1852 he removed to Pittsfield, NH, in same trade. In 1855 or early in 1856 he sold out and went to Dubuque, IA, for a short time, thence to Chicago and engaged in the produce and grain commission business, which he continued up to a short time before his death. The family went to Chicago in Nov 1856, from New Hampshire. He resided Chicago, IL.
