It occurred to me that if Nancy Whitney had a son aged 1 year old in 1860, and her husband was not listed with the family, that he could have been listed in the 1860 [[Archive:Mortality Schedules]]. These mortality schedules listed each peron who had died within the 12 months preceding the census. Sure enough, he appears to be there!

So, although not proven, it appears that the husband of Nancy was a "W. Whitney", aged 33, born in Missouri, died March 1860, Sevier Co., AR. He died due to "Rising", which, according to [http://www.antiquusmorbus.com/English/EnglishR.htm Rudy's List of Archaic Medical Terms] was an "abscess" or "a popular term for any inflammatory swelling; also for any morbid subjective sensation of something moving from the periphery toward the brain".

John H. Whitney

Hi Grady:

Thank you for the additional information on the page for Family:Whitney, John H. (c1855-a1880). I've changed the date format back to match the Family Group Record Format that we have developed for the site. We do a lot of automated script processing on the site - automatically pulling data from the pages for index page updates, etc., so it is important that the format is consistent across all pages for that to work properly. I hope doing this doesn't discourage you from further edits as we really do appreciate your input!
