George Ransom7 Whitney (Appleton Downer6, Asa5, Joshua4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of Appleton Downer6 and Esther (Jewett) Whitney, was born 14 Mar 1801, Pittsfield, MA, and died 11 Sep 1871, Berea, OH.
He married, 22 Feb 1829, Euclid, OH, Harriett Maria Bronson. She was born 19 Oct 1807, and died 17 Oct 1884.
George R. Whitney was born in Pittsfield, MA, in 1801. His mother died when he was ten days old. At an early age he was apprenticed to learn the blacksmith's trade. About 1825 he moved to Ohio, and settled near Cleveland. In 1829 he was married to Maria Bronson. In 1836 moved to Coldwater, MI, but, not having good health there, he returned to Ohio in 1837, and located at Berea, where he carried on a shop for a number of years, latterly working land that he had bought. He died in 1871, respected by all who knew him. He was a blacksmith. He resided Berea, OH.

She was educated at Baldwin seminary, Berea, OH. - Ch.: Ida, b. 27 Nov 1857; m. 18 Apr 1888, William Peter Stephens in Golden, CO; d. 9 Feb 1942 Denver, CO: Mark W., b. 15 Dec 1863; m. Athalia Bell; d. 5 Feb 1950.
ii. George Appleton Whitney, b. 28 Nov 1838; m. Mary A. Patterson. iii. Mary Ester Whitney, b. 2 Sep 1841; m. 29 Apr 1869, Rev. Burton J. Hoadley; resided Medina, OH. She attended Baldwin university at Berea, OH, and graduated in the classical course in 1868. Rev. B. J. Hoadley is also a graduate of Baldwin university. Being fond of study in addition to the duties developing upon a minister's wife, she has carried on the Chautauqua course of reading for many years. He was b. 29 Nov 1843. - Ch.: Helen Louise, b. 23 Jun 1873; d. 11 Nov 1884: George Whitney, b. 13 Jun 1876.
