Later he conducted a woolen factory which he erected, and which he afterward sold in 1829 to David Brigham. It was destroyed by fire in 1830. He was often chosen on important committees of the town, was selectman 1817-21-22-23-35-56, representative 1825 and 1827, justice of the peace from 1827 to 1832, was one of the organizers of the Congregational church in 1815. Luther7 Whitney (Samuel6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of Samuel6 and Mary (Whitney) Whitney, was born 15 Apr 1791, Gilsum, NH,[1] and died 30 Jul 1869, Lawrenceville, NY. He is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lawrenceville, NY.[2]

He married, 20 Sep 1814, Surry, NH, Betsey Dart,[3] daughter of Jesse and Jane (McCurdy) Dart. She was born 8 Jun 1790 in Gilsum, NH and died 13 Nov 1881, age 91 years, in Lawrenceville, NY. She was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lawrenceville, NY.[4]
