Family:Whitney, John (1812-1863)

John⁷ Whitney (Isaiah⁶, John⁵, Abraham⁴, Isaiah³, Thomas², John¹), son of Isaiah⁶ and Susannah (Newhall) Whitney, was born about 31 Aug 1812, Bolton, MA, and died 25 Sep 1863, Bolton, MA, aged 51 years 25 days, of cholera morbus.^[1]

He married firstly, 5 Jun 1831, Bolton, MA, Rhoda Holman.^[2] She was born about 1802, and died 28 Oct 1832, Bolton, MA, aged 30 years.^[3]

Marriage intentions were published 1 Jan 1837, Bolton, MA, for him and his second wife Cyreene/Sirene Shattuck "of Peperill".^[4] He "of Bolton" married, 29 Jan 1837, Pepperell, MA, Cyrene Shattuck,^[5] daughter of Reuben and Sally (Parker) Shattuck. She was a double Whitney descendant herself, being a granddaughter of James and Sarah (Chamberlain) Shattuck, and of Eleazer and Abigail (Lawrence) Parker, and great-granddaughter of Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Chamberlain) Lawrence. She was born 2 Sep 1807, Pepperell, MA, and died 16 Mar 1838, Pepperell, MA.^[6]

He married thirdly, about 1840, ----- -----. She died before 1849.

He married fourthly, 13 Oct 1849, Brattleboro, VT, Clarissa (Hadley) Attleton, both of Bolton, MA,^[7] daughter of John and Submit (Belknap) Hadley. She was born 20 Aug 1798, Sterling, MA, and died 27 Nov 1877, Rindge, NH. She had married firstly, 18 Sep 1830, MA, Benjamin Attleton. That explains the Attleton daughter in their household in 1850. She married thirdly, 13 Nov 1873, Rindge, NH, James Damon.^[8]

ii.	George T.8 Whitney, b. ca. Nov 1840, MA; mentioned but not named by Pierce;[10] d. 19 Aug 1860, Bolton, MA, aged 19 years 9 months, of pulmonary consumption.[11].
