He married firstly, 7 Nov 1865, Orange, MA, Hortense L. A. Johnson, daughter of Nathan L. and Olive (Atwood) Johnson. She was born 12 Aug 1842, Orange, MA, and died 30 Dec 1866, North Orange, MA. She was buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, CT.[2]
