Francis Whitney, parentage unknown, but possibly Josiah was born say 1780 (between 1775-1780), and died after 1830.
He appears to have married a first wife sometime before 1802 who died about 1820.
He appears to have married a second wife sometime between 1820 and 1825. She died before 1830.
He married, 17 Feb 1825, Nancy Delate.[1]
Because Arthur Whitney, believed to have been his son, was born in North Carolina, it is probable that he was from this state.
In the 1816 Mississippi State Census, the 1820 Mississippi State as well as the 1820 Federal Censuses, he was living in Franklin Co., MS. By 1830, he was across the Mississippi River residing in Catahoula Parish, LA.
Possible children of Francis Whitney and a first wife (based upon a census reconstruction):
i. (son) Whitney, b. ca. 1795-1816, d. or moved away bef. 1820. This was probably Arthur Whitney, b. ca. 1800, NC, d. 17 Aug 1858, Drew County AR. ii. (son) Whitney, b. ca. 1802-1804, moved away bef. 1830. This was probably Francis W. Whitney, iii. (daughter) Whitney, b. ca. 1804-1810, married or died before 1830. iv. (daughter) Whitney, b. ca. 1804-1810. v. (son) Whitney, b. ca. 1810-1816, moved away bef. 1830.
Possible children of Francis Whitney and a second wife (based upon a census reconstruction):
vi. (daughter) Whitney, b. ca. 1820-1825. vii. (son) Whitney, b. ca. 1825-1830. viii. (son) Whitney, b. ca. 1825-1830.

Is he perhaps related to Family:Whitney, Josiah (b1755-a1800) of Sampson Co., NC? On Francis Whitney's land records, he is listed as Francis Whitney Senior as early as 17 Feb 1825. We can assume that since his grandson Francis Whitney was not born until 1857, he had a son named Francis Whitney Jr.
New documentation has proven the age of both this and the often confused Francis Whitney Jr in Orangeburg, SC. These two men are not the same person. The other Francis is much older than this Francis. There are multiple possibilites in North Carolina for Francis' parentage, but parentage has not been found to be documented yet.
