William Whitney (James), son of James and Mary (Gibson) Whitney, was born 29 Jan 1804, Manchester, Lancashire, England, died 7 Dec 1856, Manchester, Lancashire, England.

He married, 21 Jul 1823, Eccles, Lancashire, England, Elizabeth Hughes, daughter of Joshua and Sarah (Rudge) Hughes. She was born 8 Jul 1805, Bristol, England, and died 24 Sep 1870.
