Whitney was born in Cuyahoga County, OH, 2 Sep 1843.  Attended school at Baldwin university, Berea, OH.  Enlisted in [http://www.ohiocivilwar.com/1lad.html Battery D, 1st Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery] 15 Aug 1862.  Was in thirty-one engagements and eleven hard fought battles; once taken prisoner; honorably discharged at Greensboro, NC, 10 Jun 1865, the war being over.  Engaged in the manufacture of bent carriage wood work at Berea and LaGrange, OH, for fifteen years.  Moved to Anderson, IN, in 1881; engaged in the hardwood lumber business for four years.  Moved to Denver, CO, in April, 1886, and is engaged in the real estate business, resided Denver, CO, 1725 Arapahoe St.
