Family:Whitney, William Barrett (1801-1874)

William Barrett⁸ Whitney (Phinehas⁷, William⁶, William⁵, William⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of Phineahas⁷ and Bethiah (Barrett) Whitney, was born 14 Jun 1801, Winchendon, MA,^[1] and died 15 Feb 1874, Winchendon, MA, or 27 Jan 1874, Cambridge, MA, aged 73 years 13 days, of paralysis.^[2]

Marriage intentions were published 2 Dec 1827, Winchendon, MA, for him and Louise Stone "of Fitzwilliam, N.H."^[3] He married, 20 Dec 1827, Fitzwilliam, NH, Lois M. Stone,^[4] daughter of David and Ruth (Mellen) Stone. She was born 25 May 1802, Greensborough, VT,^[5] and died 20 Oct 1870, Vineland, NJ.

He was a farmer during the earlier portion of his life. Later in life he was largely engaged in lumbering and in the manufacture of lumber. He resided Winchendon, MA.

iii.	Elizabeth Ellen Whitney, b. 2 Aug 1834; "Lizzie E." m. 27 Apr 1854, Orange, MA, Rev. Abram W. Stevens, b. ca. 1833, Barre, MA, son of Nathan and Lois (-----) Stevens;[11] resided Cambridge, MA. Rev. Abram Wilder Stevens was born in Barre, MA, 22 Jan 1834. He was educated at the preparatory school connected with the theological seminary, Meadville, PA, and graduated therefrom in the class of 1862. He was ordained as a Unitarian minister at Manchester, NH, in 1863 and was settled over the Unitarian society in that city until 1865, when he received a call from the Lee Street society in Cambridge, MA, which he accepted, and was settled over that society in 1865. He remained there until 1870, having been connected with this church and society for a period of five years. He is now connected with and is at the head of the proof-reading department of the University Press, Cambridge, MA. Children: a. Harold W. Stevens, b. 26 Jan 1855; m. Frances E. Ball; book-keeper Nat'l Bank of Republic, Boston, MA. b. Charles Herbert Stevens, b. 20 Aug 1860. c. Ralph L. Stevens, b. 10 Nov 1870.
iv.	Louisa Lyman Whitney, b. 8 Aug 1836; m. 4 Sep 1855, Jason A. Morrison; b. Warren, PA, 16 Nov 1828; d. 15 May 1865. Children: a. William Barrett Morrison, b. 8 Apr 1863; teller State National Bank, Denver, CO.
