Family:Whitney, Jonathan (1734-1800)

Jonathan⁵ Whitney (Benjamin⁴, Benjamin³, Benjamin², John¹), son of Benjamin⁴ and Margaret (Sanderson) Whitney, was born 25 Sep 1734, Framingham, MA,^[1] and died 1800, Dalton or Framingham, MA.^[2]

He "of Framingham" married, 15 Jun 1758, Waltham, MA, Eunice Marshall "of Waltham".^[3] She was born 2 Oct 1736, Sherborn, MA, and died Sep 1799, Dalton, MA.

Pierce says the following:^[4]

He was a soldier at the battle of Bunker Hill from Hopkinton, Mass. (NSSAR Ancestor # P-319130; DAR Ancestor # A125145)

i.	Sarah Whitney6, b. 12 Jun 1759, Needham, MA; bapt. 20 Sep 1761, Needham, MA; [5] m. circa 1784, Justus Hough.
ii.	David Whitney, b. 3 Nov 1761, Needham, MA; bapt. 22 Nov 1761, Needham, MA;[6] d. 19 Oct 1780 at NY; killed by Indians in the Battle of Stony Raba [i.e., Stone Arabia], on the Mohawk, while serving in Capt. Ely's company.
iii.	Eunice Whitney, b. 16 Nov 1763, Needham, MA; d. 1 Oct 1842, Southwick; m.(1) ----- Marshall; m.(2) March 1784, Gideon Root; both buried in (old) Southwick Cemetery. They had 8 children.
iv.	Amos Whitney, b. 27 Sep 1764, Dalton, MA.
v.	Esther Whitney, b. 13 Apr 1766, Needham, MA; bapt. 13 Jul 1766, Needham, MA;[7] m. Cyrus Rockwood.
vi.	Isaac Whitney, b. 26 Sep 1768, Sherborn, MA, d. 29 Sep 1797; m. Caroline Harman. Both buried in West Rupert Cemetery, West Rupert, Vermont.
vii.	Persis Whitney, b. 20 Aug 1769, Dalton, MA; m. ----- Lasure. There could be some confusion, as her Aunt Persis m. Joseph Lesuer.
viii.	Asaph Whitney, b. 21 Jun 1770, Hopkinton, MA; bapt. 3 Nov 1776, Hopkinton, MA;[8] m. Bethiah Hopkins. They had 11 children.
ix.	Olive Whitney, b. say 1773; m. Anson Hopkins.
x.	Jonathan Whitney, bapt. 3 Nov 1776, Hopkinton, MA.[9] He might or might not be the Jonathan Whitney "of Brookline" who m. (int. 4 Dec 1808, Weston, MA[10]) 1 Jan 1809, Anna Stimson[11], daughter of James, Jr., and Anna (Allen) Stimson, by Rev. Samuel Kendall. She was b. 7 Jun 1785, Weston, MA.

• 1790: not found. A possibility is 1790, Southwick, Hampshire Co., MA: Jonathan Whitney, 1 male over 16 and 2 females. He is on the same page as Benjamin Whitney, also otherwise unidentified, who might be his father.
• 1800, Southwick, Hampshire Co., MA: Jonathan Whitney, 1 male over 45 and 1 female over 45. This is surely the same man as in the 1790 census at Southwick.
• 1810, son Jonathan may be the one found in Boston Ward 6.
• 1820, son Jonathan may be the one found in Boston Ward 6.
• 1830, son Jonathan may be the one found in Boston Ward 7.
• 1840, son Jonathan not found.
