Capt. Samuel7 Whitney (Samuel6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of Samuel6 and Mary (Whitney) Whitney, was born 14 Jul 1781, Gilsum, NH, and died 11 Oct 1840, Chesterfield, NY.
He married firstly, 26 Nov 1801, Hope Blish.
He married secondly, 1822, Elsey Evarts. She was born 1796, and died 28 Aug 1876.
Capt. Samuel Whitney was born in Gilsum. Soon after his marriage he moved to Chesterfield, NY, where he was one of the earliest settlers. He was captain of the local militia, and in the was of 1812 participated in the battle of Plattsburg. He was a farmer, and at one time engaged in lumbering.
