Family:Whitney, Luther (1791-1869)

Luther⁷ Whitney (Samuel⁶, Joseph⁵, Timothy⁴, John³, John², John¹), son of Samuel⁶ and Mary (Whitney) Whitney, was born 15 Apr 1791; married 20 Sep 1814, Betsey Dart, born 8 Jun 1791; died 13 Nov 1881.

Luther Whitney, in 1813, while residing in Gilsum, New Hampshire, had a tailoring establishment on the brook south of his father's house. It was burned by the fire in 1817; a new shop was erected on the spot occupied by the old one. Later he conducted a woolen factory which he erected, and which he afterward sold in 1829 to David Brigham. It was destroyed by fire in 1830. He was often chosen on important committees of the town, was selectman 1817-21-22-23-35-56, representative 1825 and 1827, justice of the peace from 1827 to 1832, was one of the organizers of the Congregational church in 1815. In 1830 he moved to New York state and died at Lawrenceville. He died 30 Jul 1869; resided Lawrenceville, New York.

i.	Luther8 Whitney, born 26 Jul 1815; married Rebecca J. Irwin.
ii.	Edgar Whitney, born 25 Jun 1818; married Maria R. Shepard and Sarah Church.
iii.	Joshua Whitney, born 25 Jan 1820; died unmarried, Mobile, Alabama.
iv.	Pascal Whitney, born 4 Nov 1823; married Pema Shepard and Amanda Rockwell. He died dec. 3, 1883; resided Osage, Iowa.
