James Watrous8 Whitney (George Ransom7, Appleton Downer6, Asa5, Joshua4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of George Ransom7 and Harriett Maria (Bronson) Whitney; born Parma, Ohio, 2 Sep 1843; married in Ripley, Ohio, 13 May 1869, Lizzie Torbet, born 10 Jan 1846.

James W. Whitney was born in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, 2 Sep 1843. Attended school at Baldwin university, Berea, Ohio. Enlisted in Battery D, 1st Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery 15 Aug 1862. Was in thirty-one engagements and eleven hard fought battles; once taken prisoner; honorably discharged at Greensboro, North Carolina, 10 Jun 1865, the war being over. Engaged in the manufacture of bent carriage wood work at Berea and LaGrange, Ohio, for fifteen years. Moved to Anderson, Indiana, in 1881; engaged in the hardwood lumber business for four years. Moved to Denver, Colorado, in April, 1886, and is engaged in the real estate business, resided Denver, Colorado, 1725 Arapahoe St.

Children of James Watrous8 and Lizzie (Torbet) Whitney:

i. Carrie May9 Whitney, born 13 Apr 1870; died 5 Feb 1875.
ii. And one other child that died young.
