Welcome to the Whitney Research Group! I've done a little looking into your ancestor Elijah Whitney this morning. I see he was in the south where the Whitneys were predominantly descendants of the immigrant Samuel Whitney, but I also see that he was in Randolph County, NC, where Eli Whitney, a descendant of the immigrant John Whitney was located.
