We don't know why Pierce placed them with the other family, but from his outline, his details on that family were very scarce.

| − | According to [[Archive:Buffalo, New York, Directories]], there were 3 Whitney families in Buffalo in 1832 - a joiner with no listed first name who I have been unable to identify, [[Family:Whitney, Zerah (1784-1873)]] who was only there briefly and who moved away later that same here, and a man listed as "W. A. Whitney". Now I haven't been able to locate a "W.A.", but I *did* find a W.H. Whitney who was known to be in Erie County. [[Family:Whitney, William Henry (1779-1853)]] died in Aurora, Erie Co., NY. My suspicion in that the middle initial was either a transcription error, or someone said "H" and someone else heard "A". Very, very interesting is that this family had a daughter Maria, born 5 Jan 1817. I suspect that someone else mis-transcribed the "7" in 1817 as a "2".
