He was son of John B. and Armenia (-----) Whitney, of San Antonio, TX, and grandson of James F. and Nancy Levina (Swain) Whitney, of Grimes and Harris Cos., TX.  James F. Whitney was born about 1837, in Maine.  His parentage is an issue.  He may have been the same as James<sup>8</sup>, son of [[Family:Whitney, Thomas R. He was son of John B. and Armenia (-----) Whitney, of San Antonio, TX, and grandson of James F. and Nancy Levina (Swain) Whitney, of Grimes and Harris Cos., TX. James F. Whitney was born about 1837, in Maine. His parentage is an issue. He may have been the same as James8, son of Thomas R.7 and Harriett (Waite) Whitney (Thomas E.6, Samuel5, Samuel4, John3, Benjamin2, John1).
