Adrial L. Whitney (Leonard, Lemuel), son of Leonard and Achsah (Cole) Whitney, was born about 1826, Medfield, MA or Boston, MA (from death record), and died 17 Mar 1906, Union, Knox Co., ME, age 80 years, 11 months, 9 days (calculated birth date 8 March 1825).

He married, 25 Aug 1850, Dedham, MA, Margaret Cronin.[1] She was born about 1830, Cork Island, Ireland, the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Keough) Cronan of Cork Island, Ireland. She died 5 Apr 1915, Union, Knox Co., ME at age 87 years, 5 mo. (Calculated birth date Nov 1827). In 1850, she was residing in a boarding house in Dedham, MA (listed as Mary Cronin).

About 25 Aug 1850, the family moved to Maine.

In 1860, the family was enumerated in Union, ME. Adrial was listed under the name "E. L. Whitney". Their son Erastus L. was listed as "E. L. Jr.", indicating that Adrial was perhaps named Erastus L. Whitney, although this could have been a mistake.

Adrial L. Whitney enlisted in Co. C, 1st Maine Light Artillery on 22 December 1863, and was discharged 17 June 1865.

In 1880, Mary M. Whitney, age 73, with children Laura, 37, and Granville G. Whitney, 33, were enumerated next door to Adrial's family. It is not known what, if any, the relationship was.

Children of Adrial L. and Margaret (Cronin) Whitney:

i. Erastus Leonard Whitney, b. 26 May 1851, Union, ME;[2] m. Clara P. Kellock.
ii. James Alexander Whitney, b. 22 Oct 1854, Union, ME;[3] He died 14 July 1917 in Union, ME. He apparently never married.
iii. Mary A. Whitney, b. May 1861, ME; "Miss" "of Union" m. William J. Smith "of So. Thomaston", the son of Joseph and Hattie A. Smith, on 28 Oct 1883 in Waldoboro, ME.[4] Children:
a. Eva M. Smith, b. Mar 1884, ME.
b. Alma C. Smith, b. Feb 1888, ME.
iv Alma C. Whitney, b. ca. 1865, ME; d. 29 Jul 1881, Union, ME.[5] She is buried in the Blake Cemetery, North Warren, ME.
v. Winifred/Winniford 'Winnie' Whitney, b. May 1870, ME; d. 28 Apr 1940, Waldoboro, ME.
