James7 Whitney (Charles6, Walter5, Samuel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Charles6 and Jane (White) Whitney, was born 26 May 1814, New Scotland, NY, and died 19 Jul 1851, in Lansing Street, Albany, NY.

He married, 24 Nov 1834, Albany, NY, Elizabeth Blackett Adams, daughter of Joseph Hillyer and Leah (Blackett) Adams. She was born 19 Jan 1815, Albany, NY, and died after 1860.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a saddler and harness-maker; settled in Albany, N.Y. . . . ."

i. Minerva Jane8 Whitney, b. 31 Jan 1836; d. 9 Apr 1844, Albany, NY, where she was buried in Albany Rural Cemetery.
ii. Charles Edward Whitney, b. 19 Feb 1839; d. 2 Apr 1841, Albany, NY, where he was buried in Albany Rural Cemetery.
iii. Charles Edward Whitney, b. 25 Oct 1841; a dealer in hardware; lived at 215 Third Avenue, New York, NY, in Dec 1875; m. 16 Oct 1872, Philadelphia, PA, Rebecca Figgins, b. Brooklyn, NY, ca. 1850, and had children Charles F., Susan E., and James H., in 1880.
iv. John Blackett Whitney, b. 15 Sep 1843; a dealer in hardware; m. 8 Oct 1867, New York, NY, Emily Johnson Tracy, of Melrose, NY, daughter of Hon. H. Tracy; and dwelt at 215 Third Avenue, New York, in Dec 1875; in 1870 census, wife was Martha A. -----, b. ca. 1845, and had son Frank, b. Apr 1870.
