Austin⁹ Whitney (Seth⁸, William⁷, William⁶, William⁵, William⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of Seth⁸ and Sally (Wood) Whitney, was born 27 Feb 1819, Gardner, MA,^[1] and died 1 Nov 1851, Gardner, MA, aged 32 years 8 months 5 days, farmer, of abcess of the lungs.^[2]

He "of Gardner" married, 26 Dec 1843, Petersham, MA, Maria H. Allen^[3] of Petersham, daughter of George and Hannah (Holland) Allen. She was born 7 Aug 1826, Hardwick, MA, and died 17 Jan 1860, Gardner, MA, aged 33 years 5 months 6 days, of scroffula.^[4]

John P. Allen of Gardner was appointed guardian to Ellen Maria in Feb 1860.

He resided Gardner, MA.
