Samuel5 Whitney (Matthias4, Cornelius3, Joshua2, John1), son of Matthias4 and Alice (Robbins) Whitney, was born 2 Jan 1757, Killingly, CT,[1] and died 7 Jan 1850, Eastford, CT.[2]
Samuel married, 28 Apr 1784, Tabitha Warren, daughter of Ephraim and Mary (Brown) Warren. She was born 28 Dec 1760, Killingly, CT, and died 22 or 27 Aug 1846, Eastford, CT.
Pierce says the following:[3]
- He served during the Revolutionary war; was at Valley Forge in the winter of 1778 under WASHINGTON, and assisted in rescuing his horse from the mire and saving it from drowning by means of a rope, for which service he was personally thanked by Gen. WASHINGTON. After the war he was pensioned, receiving $8 per month during his life.
