Samuel Brown7 Whitney (William6, Elijah5, John4, William3, Joshua2, John1), born Norwich, Vermont, 28 Jan 1817; married in Boston, 4 Nov 1846, Sarah Brown; born Feb. 22, 1824; died 17 Feb 1873. When a young man he moved to Boston where he has since resided. Soon after the breaking out of the war he enlisted in the 11th Massachusetts. Battery which was attached to the 9thcorps, Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside, Army of the Potomac. He was in the battle of the Wilderness and was with Grant when Lee surrendered at Appomattox. Was in many battles and in the siege of Petersburg for nine months. He has led an active business life; resided Boston, Massachusetts, 17 Edinboro St.

i. Alfred Brown8 Whitney, born 14 Sep 1847; married Theodosia E. Beilharz.
ii. Sarah Josephine Whitney, born 4 Oct 1849; died of consumption 31 Dec 1870.
iii. Georgiana Lillian born Mar. 25 Whitney, 1853, ; died 6 Oct 1871.
