David Dewane⁸ Whitney (George W.⁷, Asaph⁶, Jonathan⁵, Benjamin⁴, Benjamin³, Benjamin², John¹), son of George W.⁷ and Mary E. (Hutchins) Whitney, was born 22 Mar 1846, Galena, Jo Daviess County, IL, and died Nov. 8, 1916 at U.S. National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Sawtelle, CA; buried Sierra Madre Pioneer Cemetery, Sierra Madre, Los Angeles County, CA.

He married, 17 Feb 1873, Ada B. Halpin. She was born 13 Feb 1848, and died after 1893.

He was born in Galena, IL, 22 Mar 1846. Spent the first ten years of his life at Syracuse and Camillus, NY, and the next five years in Saint Anthony, now Minneapolis, MN. The next ten years were spent in Chicago, IL, and Milwaukee, WI, during which time he learned the trunk trade, and the sash, door and blind business, the former of which he has worked at and carried on a manufactory in Minneapolis, MN, Los Angeles, CA, and Chicago, IL, in which line of business he is still (1893). He is located permanently in Los Angeles, CA, at his old business, trunk manufacturing; resided Minneapolis, MN, add. 301 Title & Trust Bldg., Chicago, IL, and 344 No. Main St., Los Angeles, CA.
