Family:Whitney, Sylvanus (1817-1888)

Sylvanus⁷ Whitney' (Henry Platt⁶, Sylvanus⁵, Eliasaph⁴, Nathan³, John², Henry¹), son of Henry Platt⁶ and Mary (Brundage) Whitney, was born 24 Mar 1817, Lancaster, near Carleton, NB, and died after 1881.

He married firstly, 3 Feb 1836, Hall's Harbor, NS, Elmira Parker, daughter of Thomas and Nancy (Myers) Parker. She was born 27 Apr 1816, Passamaquoddy, NB, and died 11 Jul 1854, St. John, NB.

He married secondly, 22 Aug 1855, Alice Jane Bowles, daughter of William and Prudence (Rockwell) Bowles. She was born 8 Dec 1820, Centreville, NS, and died 1 Aug 1906.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a merchant . . . . He dwelt at Hall's Harbor in Jan 1874, and had lived there continuously since 17 Oct 1834, except five months, Ap. to Aug. 1854, at St. John. "

iii.	Mary Eliza Whitney, b. 18 May 1841; d. 9 Sep 1844, Hall's Harbor, NS; bur. Baptist Cemetery, Billtown, NS.
iv.	Sophronia Whitney, b. 25 Apr 1843; d. 20 May 1854, St. John, NB, where she was buried in the Eastern Cemetery.
v.	Augusta Ritchie Whitney, b. 11 Oct 1845; d. 20 Aug 1922, New York, NY; m.(1) John Cotton Mather; m.(2) 31 Aug 1888, NS, John R. Corris.
vi.	James Frederick Whitney, b. 11 Oct 1848; d. 14 Mar 1934, Vernon Mills or Halls Harbor, NS; m. 12 Feb 1876, Billtown, NS, Eunice Roxana Alley.
vii.	George Washington Whitney, b. 4 Jun 1852; d. 15 Oct 1937, Billtown, NS; m. 28 Apr 1875, New Mines, NS, Josephine Porter.
