Joshua6 Whitney (Joshua5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Joshua5 and Mehitable (Wilson) Whitney,[1] was born 11 Nov 1758, Spencer, Massachusetts,[2], and died 18 Nov 1850, Pike, Allegany County, New York.

He married 7 Jun 1781, Spencer, Massachusetts, Esther Prouty. She was born 11 Jun 1764, Spencer, Massachusetts, and died in Langdon, New Hampshire.

He married secondly, in 1790, Electa Sawtell.

Joshua Whitney settled in Langdon, New Hampshire, where he buried his first wife; then moved to Cavendish, Vermont, where he married Miss Sawtell. From there he went to the Genesee river in New York, and located at Pike in 1815. Served in the war of the Revolution two years from Spencer, Massachusetts, in the company from that town; was in two battles previous to the capture of Burgoyne, and was present at his surrender.

Washington Whitney, of East Middletown, Dane County, Wisconsin, and Dr. Joshua Whitney, of Emmettsburg, Iowa, are descendants of Joshua and Electa. He resided Spencer, Massachusetts, Langdon and Dalton, New Hampshire, Cavendish, Vermont, and Pike, New York.
