Charles7 Whitney (Charles6, Daniel5, Daniel4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Charles6 and Ruth (Chenery) Whitney,[1] was baptized 15 Jul 1810, Watertown, MA,[2] and died 1 Apr 1899, Boston, MA.[3]
He married firstly, 29 Dec 1840, Hardwick, MA, Martha G. Collins,[4] daughter of Gamaliel and Elizabeth (Higgins) Collins.[5] She was born about 1815, MA,[6] and died before 1870.[7]
He married secondly, 9 Mar 1870, Watertown, MA, Martha Etheridge White,[8] daughter of Calvin and Margery (-----) White.[9] She was born about 1825, Braintree, MA,[10] and died after 1880.[11]
In 1870, both the marriage of Charles as well as his daughter Ruth was listed in the Watertown Records. He was 59 and a stone mason when he married his second wife Martha White, by W. Blagden, the pastor of the Old South church in Boston. It was his second marriage, but her first.
In the 1850 census, his occupation is a lumberdealer. Value of Real Estate was listed as $10,000. He was living in Watertown with his family.
In the 1860 census, his occupation is contractor. The value of his real estate is listed as $15,000 with $2200 as the value of his personal estate. He is living in Watertown with his family.
In the 1870 census, his occupation is a RR contractor. The value of his real estate is listed as $15,000 with $5000 as the value of his personal estate. He is living in Watertown with Martha, Ruth and Mary. The census was taken on 10 Jun 1870.
In the 1880 census, both he and Martha are living in Plymouth, Duxbury, MA and his occupation was listed as a retired merchant. in the 1850 & 1860 censuses, Charles, Martha and all 5 children are living in Watertown, Middlesex, MA.
Occupation: railroad contractor
