John Jay7 Whitney (John6, Darling5, Daniel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of John6 and Clarissa Harriet (Brush) Whitney, was born 23 Mar 1829, Woodbury, L.I., NY, and died 7 Dec 1880, Woodbury, L.I., NY.

He married firstly, 28 Nov 1852, Huntington, L.I., NY, Sarah Louisa Nicoll Floyd, daughter of Hon. Charles Alfred and Sophia (-----) Floyd. She was born 4 Jul 1830, Smithtown Branch, L.I., NY, and died 24 Feb 1867, Woodbury, L.I., NY.

He married secondly, before 1880, Ann (-----) Brush. She was born Apr 1829, NY, and died after 1900. Probably she was the Ann Maria Doty, daughter of Zebulon and Hannah (Whitman) Doty, born 9 Apr 1829, Cold Spring, NY, who married, 26 Aug 1849, James Brush (who died 12 Aug 1878).

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a trader and farmer . . . . They dwelt at Melville, L.I., for two years; and then settled at Woodbury where he was living in 1868."
