Welcome to the Whitney Research Group! I did a quick search through the census records and found your Truman on the 1850 census in Sherman, Chautauqua Co., NY. He was listed as b. ca. 1811, PA. A few houses away was Eli Whitney, b. ca. 1821, NY.

There were three families that we have created family group pages for who were in Chautauqua County, NY and who seem to be potential candidates. They are:

* [[Family:Whitney, John (1749-1824)]]
 +
* [[Family:Whitney, Asa (1784-1860)]]

* [[Family:Whitney, Ebenezer (1764-1824)]]

I think I found your Truman Whitney on the 1840 census as well, also in Chautauqua County, but in Hanover. He appears to have a younger brother with him, as well as a wife or sister and two young girls. Living with Eli in 1850 was a Harriet Whitney along with two girls (10 & 13, not Whitneys), so this could be the right family group. This Truman was residing next to Anthony Busher and a few doors down was Oliver Ransom.

In 1830 in Hanover, I find a John Whitney residing next to Oliver Ransom and a few doors down from Anthony Busher. I suspect that this John Whitney is the father of your Truman. Here is what John Whitney's family looked like:

In 1830 in Hanover, I find a John Whitney residing next to Oliver Ransom and a few doors down from Anthony Busher. I suspect that this John Whitney is the father of your Truman. Here is what John Whitney's family looked like:
