George Washington7 Whitney (Shubael6, Asa5, Joshua4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of Shubael6 and Sarah (Mitchell) Whitney, was born 23 Mar 1817, Groton, CT, and died 16 Aug 1886, Chicago, IL.

He married, 28 Dec 1847, Norwalk, OH, Althea F. Beebe. She was born 14 Apr 1822, Mount Vernon, OH.

George W. Whitney, born at Groton, CT, 23 Mar 1817; settled in Cleveland about 1845; married Althea F. Beebe, of Norwalk, OH, 28 Dec 1847; engaged in mercantile pursuits until about 1880, when compelled to retire through failing health; was a public spirited citizen and active in good work. Died at Chicago, 16 Aug 1886; resided Cleveland, OH, and Chicago, IL.

i. John B.8 Whitney, b. 31 Oct 1848; m. Rebecca Colvin.
ii. Clara E. Whitney, b. 1850; m. Judge Alfred W. Lamson; resided Cleveland, OH.
iii. Helen A. Whitney, b. -----; m. Arthur E. Bingham; resided 4723 Woodlawn Ave., Chicago, IL.
iv. George W. Whitney, b. 8 Oct 1866; unmarried; resided 4723 Woodlawn Ave. Came to Chicago in 1884, and is a stockholder and officer of the Marsh Bingham Lumber County.
