Joel Whitney (Joel), son of Joel and Mary (-----) Whitney, was born 21 Feb 1777, Chesterfield, NH.[1]
He married, say 1803, Mary Wheeler.
That he had a wife is inferred from the 1810 census, and that they were married about 1800-1804 is suggested by the births of three children between 1800 and 1810. Her name is from the death record of their son Royal B. Whitney. Nothing further is known of her.
Children of Joel and Mary (Wheeler) Whitney:
i. (daughter) Whitney, b. say 1805, Chesterfield, NH; living 1810. ii. (son) Whitney, b. say 1807, Chesterfield, NH; living 1810. iii. (daughter) Whitney, b. say 1809, Chesterfield, NH; living 1810. iv. Royal B. Whitney, b. ca. 14 Feb 1817, Chesterfield, NH; d. 26 Apr 1905, North Adams, MA, aged 88 years 2 months 12 days, of colitis;[2] m.(1) ----- -----; m.(2) 18 Aug 1849, Lanesborough, MA, Sarah M. Smith, b. ca. 1828, Stockbridge, MA, daughter of Russell and Cynthia (Munson) Smith.[3]
It seems likely that this was the same family:
- Edy Farwell Whitney, dau. of Joel and Mary, born 20 Jul 1812, Littleton, NH.
Census
- 1810, Chesterfield, Cheshire Co., NH: Joel Whitney, Junr, 1 male 26-44, 1 male 0-9, 1 female 26-44, and 2 females 0-9.
