He married Amanda A. Spear, born circa 1857, TX, died after 1880.

In 1900, the parents were both missing and the children distributed among several families, listed as nephews, boarders, or adopted children.

He may be the John Whitney, age 6, listed in the household of Nancy Whitney, age 32, in Little River, Sevier Co., AR in 1860. If so, a son Wade Whitney was also listed, which may indicate a relationship to the family of Family:Whitney, John (c1814-a1850), who also had a son Wade Whitney and were from AR.

There is a Nancy Whitney age 22 along with a Richard Whitney in the 1850 Izard county, Arkansas census.
