John Dudley8 Whitney (Jonathan7, Jonathan6, Joseph5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, John2, John1), son of Jonathan7 Whitney and Lucy (Parks) Whitney, was born about 5 Feb 1804, Watertown, MA, and died 10 Sep 1874, Acton, MA, aged 70 years 7 months 5 days, of dropsy, shoemaker.[1]

He married, 9 Mar 1826, Cambridge, MA, Elizabeth Doughty,[2] daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Ross) Doughty. She was born 5 Feb 1804, Yarmouth, ME, and died 30 Dec 1885, Concord, MA, aged 80 years 11 months 8 days, of old age.[3] John and Elizabeth are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Acton, MA.

iii. Jonathan Whitney, b. about 19 Dec 1831, Westford, MA; m.(1) Eliza Jane Patterson; m.(2) Mrs. Mary H. (Reed) Piper.
iv. Samuel Whitney, b. ca. 1834; m. Ellen Connell.
v. Maria H. Whitney, b. ca. May 1837, Acton, MA; d. 6 Jun 1872, Lexington, MA, aged 35 year, 1 month, of dropsy; m. 28 Oct 1867, Lexington, MA, John C. Hildreth,[5]
vi. Rebecca Jane Whitney, b. 1840, Westford, MA; d. 6 Jan 1919, Littleton, MA; m. 1 Sep 1859, Acton, MA, Samuel S. Reed, b. 1832, Littleton, son of Jacob and Rachel (-----) Reed.[6]
vii. William Francis Brown Whitney, b. ca. 10 Feb 1842, Acton, MA; m. Annie McNerney.
viii. Daniel W. Whitney, b. ca. 1842, MA; living 1850. Daniel could be the same person as William Francis due to the fact that William is not listed in the 1850 census and Daniel is not listed in any census after 1850 and their estimated birth year is the same.
ix. Almira S. Whitney, or Elmyra, b. ca. 1844, MA; m. 4 Oct 1865, Concord, MA, Charles Morse, shoemaker "of Marlboro", b. ca. 1835, Marlborough, MA, son of William and Almira7 (Whitney) Morse.[7]
x. Edward H. F. Whitney, b. 2 Dec 1848, Acton, MA;[8] d. 16 May 1854[9].
xi. Charles Harlow Whitney, b. 26 Sep 1851, Acton, MA;[10] m(1). 9 Aug 1871, Watertown, MA, Lydia Adams.[11] m.(2) 16 Jun 1885, Boston, MA, Mabel Cecilia Langill b. about 1860, Nova Scotia, daughter of George and Margaret Langill.[12] d. after 1920; No children have been located.
