Jeremiah C. Whitney (Phinehas, (poss.) John5, (poss.) Samuel4, John3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Phinehas and Mary (Crommitt) Whitney, was born 28 Feb 1804, Phillips (or Waterville), ME[1] and died 3 Mar 1873, possibly in Presque Isle or Monticello, ME, aged 69 years 2 days.

He married firstly, before 1834, Lydia -----. She was born 19 Aug 1814, NB, and died 27 Sep 1856, probably in Presque Isle, ME.

He married secondly, 26 Mar 1857, Houlton, ME, Susan Butler ("Butter" in marriage record). She was born about 1822, Ireland, and died after 1870.

Both Jeremiah and his first wife, Lydia, are buried in the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle, ME.

i. Orrin Whitney, b. May 1834; m. Fort Fairfield, ME; d. 30 Oct 1864, Presque Isle, ME; m. 9 May 1857, Hannah E. Goss "both of Presque Isle". He is buried in the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle, ME. His grave marker is inscribed: Sergt. Orren Whitney, a member of Co. C, 45th Regt., Maine Vols., died of disease contracted in the service of his country Oct. 30, 1864, aged 30 years and 5 months. Son of Jeremiah and Lydia.
ii. Fanny Whitney, b. ca. 1834 or 1836, Bangor, ME; m. before 1856, William H. Hooper.
ii. George Whitney, b. 1 Jun 1837, NB; d. 18 Sep 1893; bur. Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle, ME.
ii. Lydia A. Whitney, b. ca. 1844, NB; d. after 1870.
iii. Phebe E, Whitney, b. May 1845, ME. She is buried in the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle, ME. Her grave marker is inscribed: Phebe E. Whitney died Aug. 17, 1878, age 33 years & 3 months. Thirty of her business associates have erected this momento of their appreciation of her many virtues.
