Pascal8 Whitney (Luther7, Samuel6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of Luther7 and Betsey (Dart) Whitney, was born 4 Nov 1823, Gilsum, NH, and died 3 Dec 1883, Osage, IA.

He married firstly, 14 Sep 1848, Lawrenceville, NY, Irena L. Shepard, daughter of Heman and Loret (Rockwell) Shepard. She was born about 1827, and died 16 Oct 1857 in NY.

She left a husband and three children, the youngest only a few months old.

He married secondly, 10 Oct 1859, Amanda Chloe Rockwell, She was born 16 Sept 1838, Lawrenceville, NY, and died 14 Feb 1920, Osage, IA. She was the daughter of Jonas C. and Perna Rockwell.

She attended local schools, a private school in Castleton, VT, finishing at the State Normal at Potsdam, NY, in preparation for the teaching profession. She followed this profession having taught in the state of Vermont.


She resided Osage, IA. He resided Lawrenceville, NY.

When Pascal was about three years old, the family moved to Lawrenceville, St. Lawrence Co., NY. He received the finest education for the times and finished his studies at the Potsdam Academy. Occasionally he taught in area schools and helped his father, Luther. He engaged and was fairly succesful in the merchantile business.

In 1858 he moved west where he formed a partnership in general banking business with a cousin, Pascal Smith at St Paul, MN. He then returned east and married Miss Rockwell, a cousin to his first wife. Soon after their marriage they moved to the Chicago area, living near a daughter, Mrs. Frederick Sinclair James. Later Pascal held a head bookkeeper position in a well known stationery company. When his health started to fail, they moved to Osage, IA, in June of 1870. He remained active in business for a few more years until health would not permit.

Pascal and Amanda Whitney are buried in the Osage Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell Co., IA.

iv. Perna Miner9 Whitney, b. 21 Oct 1861, Chicago, IL; d. 8 Mar 1936, Osage, IA; unmarried. A veteran Teacher of Piano, having taught in Lockport, NY, Lynchburg, VA, and Osage, IA.
v. (child) Whitney, b. say 1864, IL; d. before 1870; deduced from 1900 and 1910 Censuses.
v. Annette Hersey Whitney, b. 1866, Chicago, IL; d. 1937, Greeley, CO; unmarried. She made her home with a brother Dr. F. L Whitney. Miss Whitney taught music for many years.
vi. Kate Rebecca Whitney, b. 1868, Chicago, IL; d. 23 Apr 1901, Osage, IA; unmarried.
vii. Frederick Lamson Whitney, b. 20 Oct 1873, Osage, IA; m. Cordelia Stoughton Brown.
