Russell Velasco9 Whitney (Torrey8, Moses7, Samuel6, Samuel5, Nathaniel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Torrey8 and Betsey (Lamb) Whitney, was born 29 Jan 1832, Gibson, PA, and died 2 Jul 1904, Jackson, PA. He was buried in North Jackson Cemetery, Jackson, PA.[1]

He married, 24 Dec 1852, Melissa Catherine Wheaton. She was born 15 Jun 1830, and died after 1880.

Russell Velasco Whitney is a farmer in Thompson, PA. For some time he was in the grocery business with his son-in-law at Susquehanna, PA. During the war was Sergeant in the 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry; resided Thompson, PA.

Civil War: Sgt., Co. B, 17th PA Cavalry.
Served: 9/21/1862-3/13/1863.
Discharged on Surgeon's Certificate.
