Daniel may or may not be his correct name.  There is a marriage recorded in Hamilton County> Ohio for "Samuel" Whitney and Rachel Miller on 25 April 1835.  It does not seem that this could be a coincidence.  See "Ohio Marriages 1800-1858".

Samuel Whitney, parentage unknown, was born 25 Aug 1815, and died 8 Feb 1839.

He married, 20 Apr 1835, Rachel White Miller, daughter of Hazael and Naomi (Mayhew) Miller. She was born 19 Feb 1816, Bridgeton, NJ, and died 23 May 1888, Cornell, IL. She married secondly, 11 Jan 1843, Union Co., IN, William Husted. He was born 26 Jun 1814, NJ, and died 28 Nov 1900. Cornell, IL.

i. William Warren Whitney, b. ca. 1837, Hamilton, OH; m.(1) Sarah Ann Walden; m.(2) Lucinda Walden; m.(3) Mary E. Walden.
