I inherited some of my great grandmother and great  Aunt's genealogical research.  I had begun asking for this research when I was 14.  With the surfacing last year of  my grandmother's photographs and the help of sisters and cousins , I've made great headway.  A box of old letters, odd photos, etc.  began to take shape.  I've devoted the better part of my work life for a year to this.      I'm determined to complete the work of my ancestors.

I can fill in a substantial portion around the two Rufus Whitneys in our line ...material that didn't make it into Pierce's book although my 3G-grandfather, Dr. Rufus's younger brother, William Graves Whitney  IS listed in Pierce's.  We  have a journal from 1858-1862 that proves they stayed connected in their daily lives.  In this line, in 3 successive Whitney generations a parent died young.  This meant scattered family members and second marriages.  I've filled in most of the blanks, located descendents even of second marriages. It's incredibly satisfying to find people!

Recently,  I've finally managed to locate Dr. Rufus' father  (also Rufus) and his wife, Sarah Graves, in Killingly, CT.    Sarah Graves was the daughter of Wm. and Mary Graves, and the grand-daughter of Lebbeus Graves and Amity Whitney! (Probated wills and deeds.)  Further research revealed that Rufus (1) and Sarah Graves were 3rd cousins, twice removed. There is a double descendancy from John and Elinor Whitney.    Rufus 1 died in 1800 and Sarah Graves Whitney remarried, this time to an Ephraim Densmore from Temple, N.H.  I've noticed that many people have claimed Sarah Graves Whitney and list her incorrectedly as having married her son Abraham Densmore, Dr. Rufus Whitney's half brother.  I find this very frustrating.

At present, I'm  concentrating on locating some record of the marriage of Laura Hatch and Dr. Rufus Whitney of Granville, Washington County, NY. in about 1818.      When I get all possible proofs lined up, I hope to write this material up and gain a consensus among the involved family members in posting it here in detail.

Edit My Whitney Line

Married with children and grandchildren, I am an artist with a busy life in the arts. I also quilt and was a weaver. With a B.A. (philosophy & psychology) and an MA , research is not foreign to me. I love to solve puzzles. I've become obsessed with this genealogical research.

I've filled in most of the blanks, located descendants even of second marriages.
