Josiah5 Whitney (Josiah4, Josiah3, [prob.] Benjamin2, John1), son of Josiah4 and Mehitable (Fuller) Whitney, was born 16 Nov 1764, Willington, CT,[1] and died 29 Oct 1792, Granville, MA.[2]

Josiah married, 26 Nov 1783, East Windsor, CT, Mary Loomis, daughter of Solomon and Mary (Dart) Loomis. She was born 26 Jan 1765, Bolton, CT, and died 14 Jan 1850 or 1859, Rootstown, OH. She married secondly, Nov 1797, Solomon Payne.

Pierce says the following:[3]

In 1781, when seventeen years of age, he was in the Revolutionary army, in a Belchertown company. After his death she m. Nov., 1797, with Solomon PAYNE and moved to Rootstown, Ohio, where she d. of smallpox Jan. 14, 1850.

iii. Indiana Whitney, b. 21 Aug 1789, Willington, CT; bapt. 23 Jun 1791, Granville, MA; d. after 1834; m. 20 Mar 1811, MA, Calvin Allen. She was also known as Irdana Whitney.
iv. Josiah Whitney, b. 1 May 1791, East Granville, MA; bapt. 23 Jun 1791, Granville, MA; m. Almira Ellsworth.
