James Jefferson7 Whitney (John Merrick6, James Rex5, Caleb4, William3, Joshua2, John1), born 11 Jan 1834; married 18 Feb 1858, Josephine Darden, born 19 Oct 1830/8, died 14 August 1914; he died at 11pm 13 September 1896; resided Fayette, Mississippi.
He was a Captian in Co. H of the 4th Mississippi Cavalry with General Wert Adams as Commander of the Brigade, and General N.B. Forest as Division Commander. He enlisted in April 1862 and served until the end of the war. His company surrendered at Gainsville, Alabama, under General Forest. He was a lawyer for 25 years and also served as a legisltor.

Charles Cunningham Whitney, born 19 Mar 1869, died New York City; married Elsie Routh. vii. Lena Landrum Whitney, born 8 Aug 1871; died 1 May 1897 unmarried. viii. Della J. J. Whitney, born 3 Nov 1873, died 18 May 1952; married Rev. Albert Thomas Felix. ix. Eula Lea Whitney, born 13 Aug 1876, died 8 Jan 1959; married Rev. William Washington Phares.
