Family:Whitney, Lyman (1788-1870)

Lyman⁶ Whitney (Samuel⁵, Eliakim⁴, Nathan³, John², Henry¹), son of Samuel⁵ and Elizabeth (Wright) Whitney, was born 4 Mar 1788, Ballston, District, NY, and died 7 May 1870, Lockport, NY, aged 82 years. He was buried at Mountain Ridge Cemetery, Royalton, NY.

He married, 8 Nov 1818, Marcellus, NY, Melissa Taylor, daughter of Russel and Asenath (Hayes) Taylor. She was born 18 Mar 1795, Granby, CT, and died after 1874.

Phoenix says the following:

"Lyman Whitney, b. in Ballston District, N. Y., 4 March 1788; a farmer; moved, with his father, to Allen's Hill, Richmond, N. Y., and thence to Marcellus, N. Y., where he married, 8 Nov. 1818, Melissa Taylor, of Marcellus, born in Granby, Conn., 18 March 1795, dau. of Russel and Asenath (Hayes) Taylor, of Granby. He was a communicant of the Protestant Episcopal Church. He died at the house of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann (Whitney) Hurd, at Lockport, N. Y., 7 May 1870, aged 82 years, and was buried at Mountain Ridge Cemetery, in Royalton, N. Y. She lived with her daughter, Mrs. Hurd, at Wright's Corners, N. Y., in 1874."

i.	George Washington7 Whitney, b. 16 Apr 1820, Richmnd, NY; m. Matilda Ann Wright.
ii.	Julia Elizabeth Whitney, b. 22 May 1822, Richmond, NY; m. Joseph Warford Rich.
iii.	Mary Ann Whitney, b. 26 Aug 1830, Richmond, NY; m. David Hurd.
