Benjamin Morse Whitney

Benjamin Morse6 Whitney (Micah5, Abel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Micah5 and Hannah (Cobb) Whitney,[1] was born 19 Mar 1806, Phillips, ME,[2] and died May 1890, Gardiner, ME. (Note: Micah Whitney brought his family from Gray to Phillips, ME in 1811. G.B. Sedgeley claims to have found a record that Benjamin was born in Gray. He was definitely not born in Phillips.)

He married, 26 Sep 1830, Phillips, ME, Susan Wells, the dau. of Nathaniel and Susan (Harris) Wells of Ipswich, MA and Mt. Vernon, ME. She was born 1806, and died 1892, Gray, ME, aged 86 years. He died 1 May 1890 in Gardiner, ME. Benjamin and Susan are buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Phillips, ME.

He resided Madrid and Gardiner, ME.

i. Phebe Cobb7 Whitney, b. 24 Feb 1831, Phillips, ME; m. Orrington Andrews.
Ch.: Emola, b. -----; resided Gardiner, ME. She is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Gardiner, ME.
ii. Royal Thaxter Whitney, b. 29 Jul 1832, Phillips, ME; m. Sarah Louise Lambert; resided El Paso, TX. Listed as "Thaxter L." in 1850.
iii. Martin VanBuren Whitney, b. 21 Jun 1834, Phillips, ME; m.(1) bef. 1852, ----- Rowe; m.(2) bef. 1858, Abbie Q. Toothaker; m.(3) Ila Babb. (Note: Martin did not marry Ila Babb. Ila married Martin's son Edward H. Whitney.)
iv. Melvina Susan Whitney, b. 28 May 1836, Rangeley, ME; m. 1 Jan 1860, J. Richmond Adams.
v. Joseph Clement Whitney, b. 26 Feb 1838 (twin), Rangeley, ME; Dr., resided Thorndike, ME.
vi. Mary Clementine Whitney, b. 26 Feb 1838 (twin), Rangeley, ME; d. 1916; m. George H. Cushman; resided Phillips, ME. George died in 1903, and Mary in 1916. They are both buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Phillips, ME. They had one child: Aura Cushman, b. abt 1862.
vii. Benjamin Dexter Whitney, b. 25 Dec 1841, Rangeley, ME; m. Annis B. Ross, b. in 1847, the dau. of William and Eunice (Hoar) Ross. Both died in Phillips, ME.: he in 1917 and she in 1926. Both are buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Phillips, ME.
viii. Martha Van Buren Whitney, b. -----; resided Sabattus, ME. (Note: This entry by F.C. Pierce should be corrected to Martin Van Buren Whitney (above), who did reside in Greene (Sabattus), ME from at least 1880 to at least 1920.)
