Robert Shaw⁸ Whitney (Albert Appleton⁷, Appleton Downer⁶, Asa⁵, Joshua⁴, William³, Joshua², John¹), son of Albert Appleton⁷ and Jenette (Brown) Whitney, was born 14 Sep 1835, MA, and died 29 Jan 1875, Burnside Crossing, IL.

He married, 2 Jun 1855, Elyria, OH, Emily Hicks. She was born 13 May 1837, Lorain Co., OH. She married secondly, 5 Dec 1877, Augustus I. Garnsey.

She resided at Burnside Crossing, Cook County, IL. He was a carpenter and carriage manufacturer. He resided Brighton and LaGrange, OH, and Burnside Crossing, IL.
