His father's estate was probated 1 Jul 1757, Dunstable, MA, James and Ellenor Whitney, children of Mr. James Whitney, late of Dunstable, deceased, chose their uncle Thomas Harrod as guardian. On 4 Jul 1757, Dunstable, MA, Thomas Harwood of Dunstable, N.H., innholder, was appointed guardian of James and Ellenor Whitney, minors over 14, children of James Whitney, late of Dunstable, deceased, and posted bond with William Angier of Cambridge as surety. On 29 Mar 1770, Dunstable, MA; a receipt was given to his guardian for his share of his father's estate; witnessed by Eleanor Powers.
