John8 Whitney (Joseph Glazier7, Abner6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), born Ashburnham, 12 Sep 1806; married there 9 May 1832, Eliza Cushing, born Apr. 18, 1815; died 1 Sep 1882. John Whitney, son of Joseph G. and Lavina (Dunn) Whitney. He resided some years in Westminster and subsequently in Ash., where he was a pioneer manufacturer of chairs. In his daily life and in business he ignored contention and enjoyed the rewards of peace and honorable conduct. He d., May 4, 1873; resided Westminster and Ashburnham.

i. Stephen C.9 Whitney, born 4 Jul 1833; married 14 Apr 1861, Achsah I. May; born 5 Jul 1839. Enlisted in 53d Regt. And died N.O., Louisiana, Feb. 20, 1863. She resided in Templeton, Massachusetts.
ii. Eliza C. Whitney, born 25 Jul 1835; died 13 Jul 1837.
iii. Joseph Whitney, born 15 Jun 1838; died 26 Nov 1838.
iv. Wilbur Fisk Whitney, born 9 Dec 1839; married Emeline S. Jewell.
v. John Edwin Whitney, born 28 Oct 1841; died 21 Nov 1856.
vi. Timothy Merritt Whitney, born 2 Dec 1844; died 22 Nov 1856.
vii. George Edward Whitney, born 20 Apr 1847; died unm., 30 Oct 1880.
viii. Orange Whitney, born 16 Mar 1849; married Laura M. Collester.
ix. Sarah A. Whitney, born 4 Oct 1850; married 20 Feb 1878, Geo. H. Clapp; resided Greenfield.
x. Arthur Melville Whitney, born 4 Oct 1853; unm.; resided Grand Rapids.
xi. Alfred H. Whitney, born 14 Jun 1856; married Susie W. Davis.
