Robert Shaw⁸ Whitney (Albert Appleton⁷, Appleton Downer⁶, Asa⁵, Joshua⁴, William³, Joshua², John¹), son of Albert Appleton⁷ and Jenette (Brown) Whitney; born -----, Massachusetts, 14 Sep 1835; married in Elyria, Ohio, 2 Jun 1855, Emily Hicks, born Lorain County, Ohio, 13 May 1837. She married 2d, 5 Dec 1877, Augustus I. Garnsey. She resided at Burnside Crossing, Cook County, Illinois. He was a carpenter and carriage manufacturer. He died 29 Jan 1875; resided Brighton and LaGrange, Ohio, and Burnside Crossing, Illinois.

i.	Martha E.9 Whitney, born 5 May 1856; died 5 Nov 1858.
ii.	Robert R. Whitney, born 11 Aug 1858; married Rozella White.

v.	Susan Janette Whitney, born 13 Jun 1867; married 29 Nov 1886, John C. Minch; resided Amherst, Ohio Ch.: J. Bertie, born 11 Sep 1887; died Sept. 7, 1888; Mary Emily, born 12 Sep 1888; Leland, born 11 Sep 1891; Leon, born 11 Sep 1891.
vi.	Salmon D. Whitney, born 29 Nov 1870; unmarried; resided Burnside Crossing, Illinois.
vii.	George E. Whitney, born 8 Jun 1875; died 3 Jul 1875.
