Edward6 Whitney (Nathan5, Richard4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of Nathan5 and Hannah (Taylor) Whitney, was born 1 Aig 1788, Danbury, CT, and died 9 Dec 1863, Liberty, NY, aged 75 years 4 months 8 days.

He married, Madison, NY, Mary Furniss, daughter of David and Rhoda (Hinds) Furniss. She was born 25 Aug 1793, Worcester, MA, and died 27 Apr 1865, Eaton Village, NY.

Phoenix says the following:

"Edward Whitney, b. in Danbury, Conn., 1 Aug. 1788; a teacher and book-keeper; married, in Madison, N. Y., Mary Furniss, of Madison, dau. of David and Rhoda (Hinds) Furniss, of Worcester, Mass., where she was born 25 Aug. 1793. They dwelt in Madison, and afterward at Stevensville, in Liberty, N. Y., where he died, 9 Dec. 1863, aged 75 years, 4 months, and 8 days, and was buried. She died, 27 Ap. 1865, at Eaton Village, N. Y., and was buried at Madison Village."

i. John Taylor7 Whitney, b. 1 Aug 1815, Madison, NY; a merchant, then a book-keeper, and afterward a farmer; m. 16 Aug 1869, Syracuse, NY, by Rev. Addison Kellogg Strong, D.D., Congregational, of Syracuse, Mary Groves, dau. of John and Percy (Lilly) Groves, of Lebanon, NY, where she was b. 15 June 1819. He dwelt in New York City from 15 Aug 1828 to Dec 1831; and settled, 14 May 1834, at Eaton, NY, where they were living, without children, in Apr 1874. He was postmaster at Eaton, from 1 Jul 1853 till 30 Sep 1861; and superintendent of the poor, for Madison County, for three years from 1 Jan 1854.
ii. Eliza Maria Whitney, b. 22 Apr 1817, Madison, NY; m. Sep 1840, Madison Village, NY, William Manchester, son of William Manchester, of Madison; d. 10 Oct 1848, Madison, NY, without children, and was buried in Madison Village. He was living at Morrisville, NY, in Apr 1874.
