Joseph⁷ Whitney (Elisha⁶, Samuel⁵, William⁴, Nathaniel³, John², John¹), son of Elisha⁶ and Eunice (Seaver) Whitney, was born 22 Feb 1785, Westminster, MA,^[1] and died 2 May 1877, Pittsfield, OH.

He married, 27 Apr 1811, Andover, VT, Abigail Townes, daughter of Aaron and Abigail (Johnson) Towne [sic]. She was born 22 Jan 1791, Andover, VT, and died 2 Apr 1872, Pittsfield, OH.

1.^  "Joseph [Whitney], s. Elisha and Eunice, [born] Feb. 22, 1784," according to Franklin P. Rice, ed., Vital Records of Westminster, Massachusetts, to the End of the Year 1849 (1915). This birth date is too close to an older sibling, but Heywood's History of Westminster puts it in 1785, which seems more reasonable. The 1860 and 1870 censuses give an age consistent with a birth in early 1785.
