Abel7 Whitney (Levi6, Abel5, Naham4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Levi6 and Happy (Higgins) Whitney, was born 22 Mar 1811, Standish, ME,[1] and died 1884, Naples, ME.

Marriage intentions were filed 28 Mar 1835 and published 12 Apr 1835, Standish, ME, for him and Sarah Cole.[2] He married firstly, 19 Apr 1835, Standish, ME, Sarah Cole.[3] She was born 1811, and died 1853.

Marriage intentions were filed 11 Dec 1863, Standish, ME, for him and Mrs. Mary Ann Seavitt of Gorham. She was born about 1826.

He resided in Standish, ME in the census of 1850, and in Naples, ME in the censuses of 1860 through 1880. He was a cooper.

i. Henry C.8 Whitney, b. 25 Jan 1844; unmarried; resided 16 Chapman Pl., Boston, MA.

Emily Jane Whitney, b. 29 June 1835 in Standish, ME; m. to William L. Pinkham of Casco, ME on 16 February 1869 in Standish, ME.

Mary Ellen Whitney, b. 17 April 1838 in Standish, ME

Charles Newell Whitney, b. 9 August 1841 in Standish, ME

Henry Clinton Whitney, b. 25 January 1844, Standish, ME, d. 13 June 1931 in Melrose, MA. Henry was a Civil War veteran: From the Civil War pension file of Henry Clinton Whitney Invalid Application #180.537, Certificate #1,134,299 (C2485269) National Archives, Washington, D.C.

He enlisted at Portland, ME 30 September 1861. Lived at Eades Falls, Naples, Maine, where he was a farmer, before enlisting. He was discharged 8 May 1863 at Portland. After discharge he lived in Standish until 1873, and in Boston, MA until 1893, in Dover, NH until 1900, and in Revere, MA until 1905, then in Boston. He was a house painter. He was 5 ft, 9 inches tall, 138 lbs., blue eyes, gray hair at time of application. Dark complexion.

Sevice Record: Co. E, 10th Maine Infantry. Enlisted 30 April 1861, and was discharged 8 May 1863. Co. K, 1st D.C. Cavalry, enlisted 9 December 1863 Transferred from DC Cavalry to 1st Maine Cavalry in September 1864 , discharged 27 August 1864.. He was a prisoner of war, taken at Sycamore Church 16 September 1864, and released 6 July 1865. He was never married. Died 13 June 1931 in Melrose, MA at 472 Pleasant Street.
