John6 Whitney (Josiah5, John4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Josiah5 and Hannah (Turner) Whitney, was born 1781, Toronto, Canada, or abt 1791 in Gaspe, Lower Canada and died 1864, Chipman, NS. It should be mentioned that the Toronto mentioned by F.C. Pierce is probably not the Toronto, Canada known today. There is a possibility that there was an area of Gaspe known as "Toronto".

He married secondly, Quebec, Margaret -----. She died 1832. He m. firstly Isabel -------.

He was born in Toronto, Canada, was a farmer, and during the war of 1812 served in an English company, raised in Canada. He was a devout member of the Church of England, and in politics was a Conservative. He was granted a pension from Chelsea Hospital of 6d. sterling per day. He resided Sherbrook and Chipman, NS.

i. Isabella "Belle"7 Whitney, b. 2 Jan 1816 or 1820, Pictou, Pictou Co., Nova Scotia; m. Chipman, Canada, 1841, Matthew Glen; resided Salmon River, Queens County, NB. He was b. 1816. Is a farmer.
Ch.: Mary Jane, b. 1846; m. 1868, Mr. Paschel; resided Harcourt, Kent County, NB, Josiah, born 1848; m. 1885; resided Lake Stream, NB; Matthew, b. 1851; m. 1892; resided Fulton Brook, NB.
ii. Elenor Whitney, b. 1823 or abt. 1818 in Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia; m. 1851, John McDuff; resided Doaktown, Northumberland County, NB.
iii. Charlotte Whitney, b. 1828 or February 1823 in Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia; m. 1853, Freeman Arbo; resided Elm Hall, MI.
